This article brings up couple interesting approaches on penetrating the web market and leading the traffic to your own source.
.
Interestingly, this reminds me of one of the marketing campaigns that we did for one of our clients, Tribull Noodle, in 2015. Having multiple serious discussions with the owners and understanding that they want to have a "SPARK" in their grand opening.
.
The owners and we have made a blunt and wild decision : Under the supervision of BC SPCA, we brought three cattles to the city and showed case the idea of organic beef...etc.
.
E-news paper and online forum discussions went wild, we had received (Organic, and lum sum) more than 24,000 views and more than 100 people left various comments on the wall / website WITH IN 2 DAYS.
.
Comments were extremely opposite, most female (25~45) audiences HATED the ideas and thought it was cruel and lame. Yet, most of the Male audiences (18~45) were actually quite supportive and thought "it was an excellent idea, but just were not handle properly".
.
Result? The business had a blast in traffic in the first week, and the online controversies generated hundred of clients who "came and gossiped"
.
Conclusion: Controversies = Raising higher temperature = HIGH TRAFFIC. But, is this the traffic you want to generate and is this the image you want to have in the public?
.
